30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 18 – Towering

Today’s painting feels so.. doodly? It doesn’t look like the paintings I’m used to making, so I’m feeling strangely skeptical towards it. There’s buildings, a telescope. And if I stare at the lower cliff enough I think I see a cat at the very tip, looking out onto the landscape.

It’s a twin with the previous painting but with a totally different mood going on. Below you can see them side by side on the paper.

30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 17 – On The Ledge

My old block of paper ran out today so I started using the new one. It’s less absorbent so the paint behaves differently on it. The mountain side effect is partly due to that, the way the paint slides more easily.

“On The Ledge”, acrylics on paper, about A4-sized.

30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 16 – They Follow The Rain

For a while now I’ve imagined or sensed dragons that sometimes come with the rain clouds. How marvelous it would be to see one dive and let out a dragon scream, fading in and out of the clouds.

“They Follow The Rain”, acrylic on canvas paper, about A4-sized.

Below are the weekend’s paintings side by side. One can tell they’re sort of related. Similar colour scheme and the addition of a not so natural phenomenon. Usually I prefer to paint as much nature as possible, nature is the best thing in the world. My psyche was in a slightly different place this weekend, however.

30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 15 – Adventure

It’s strange, the main tree looks more defined, slightly darker in real life.. The trouble with finishing these paintings in the evening on the day that they need to be posted is the lack of good light, so the photos don’t come out great. This particular piece took a lot work, it just wouldn’t come together right, so it was definitely dark by the time I finished.

“Adventure”, acrylics on canvas paper, about A4-sized.

30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 14 – Movement

I had already mixed some brown and white and thought about adding seagulls or a partially visible lighthouse, maybe a ship, but.. I like it best the way it is. Just the sky and the water.

“Movement”, acrylic paint on canvas paper, about A4-sized.

Turns out the theme and the colours fit my current mood just fine, I was a bit worried that I’d feel something radically different and it’d be difficult to continue on this one, a painting I started last night.

30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 13 – Point of Power

I really love all shades of green-blue. It can be calming, it can be a sign of deep waters, and it’s often associated to elves and elven cities. The restless birds mirror my own restlessness today. Partly it’s due to the stories I’ve ingested, I’m listening to Divergent in audio book format and I watched the last episode of season 1 of the Shannara Chronicles. But also there’s restlessness in my life, which I’m trying to balance and be patient about.

“Point of Power”, acrylic paint on canvas paper, about A4-sized.

I’ve already started on tomorrow’s painting. I like it when the paintings that are side by side sort of twin eachother. The motif isn’t going to be the same but the spirit or energy is of a similar temper and the colours are more closely related than if I had made them on different days. If I start on a painting from scratch, the colour scheme would match whatever I’m feeling on that day and the likelihood of getting a twin isn’t big.

30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 12 – Mountain Air

As I’m writing this the rain and wind is signalling the thunderstorm is getting closer, so I’m just going to post this real fast today and run! Thunder is already crackling fairly close.

“Mountain Air”, acrylic on canvas paper, about A4-sized.

30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 11 – Presence

It’s been a weird kind of day but in this late evening I’m still left with a warm glow kind of feeling, I guess it poured out onto the canvas as well. Personally I sense something’s there, something’s with us in the forest. Maybe a whole hoard of small things, maybe something angelic, maybe a UFO, who knows. Maybe for someone else there’s simply the sunlight. Nothing more awesome than nature, you know? Whatever you see is great.

“Presence”, acrylic on canvas paper, about A4-sized.

30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 10 – In The Clearing

Naturally, since I planned to be up early in the morning I tossed and turned all night. When it was time to get up I felt like a ghost. Sure hope sleeping goes better tonight. I’m running late again, almost forgot to post this!

“In The Clearing”, acrylics on canvas paper, about A4-sized.

30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 9 – Autumn Sky

Oh how I love these colours! I love playing around with bright! Probably going to have to touch up the white tomorrow after it’s all dried, the white parts do tend to dull a bit since I often use them slightly diluted.

“Autumn Sky”, acrylic paint on canvas paper, about A4-sized.

I should be sleeping by now, so I’m hurrying off to bed right away. Got some errands to run tomorrow and also I’ve suddenly got this major urge to be up early enough in the mornings to take a short walk. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, maybe it’s a good idea, we’ll see. Good night for now!
